D\u0130SK-AR Unemployment and Employment Outlook Report (July 2024) Published:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 10 million broadly defined unemployed!<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/strong><\/p>\n TurkStat’s April 2024 Household Labor Force Survey (HLFS) results were published on July 10, 2024. The seasonally adjusted narrow-defined unemployment rate was 8.4 percent, while the seasonally adjusted broad-defined unemployment rate (idle labor force) was 25.2 percent. According to TurkStat, the number of narrow-defined unemployed people aged 15 and above (seasonally adjusted) in Turkey was 3 million 11 thousand in May 2024.<\/p>\n According to the calculation made by DISK-AR using TURKSTAT data, the number of seasonally adjusted broad-defined unemployed people was 10 million 31 thousand in May 2024. According to TurkStat, narrow-defined unemployment, which was 13.7 percent in May 2019 before the pandemic, was 8.4 percent in May 2024. However, in the same period, the broad-defined unemployment rate increased from 18.5 percent to 25.2 percent. In the last 1 year, the number of broad-defined unemployed increased by 1 million 484 thousand, from 8.5 million to 10 million. After the Covid-19 pandemic, the broad-defined unemployment rate increased by 6.7 points and the number of broad-defined unemployed increased by 3 million 700 thousand people.<\/p>\n According to the HLFS data released by TurkStat, the increase in broad-defined unemployment (idle labor force) continued in May 2024. The number of unemployed people increased by 1 million 484 thousand in the last one year and by 4 million 708 thousand people in the last 10 years (2014-2024).<\/p>\n The number of potential labor force increased by 758 thousand in the last year, rising from 3 million to 3.8 million. The increase in the potential labor force was 1 million 865 thousand people in the ten-year period. The increase in time-based underemployment was much more striking. The number of time-based underemployed, which includes those who work less than 40 hours per week and would like to work more if they had the opportunity, increased by 1 million 39 thousand people in the last one year, from 2.2 million to 3.2 million. The number of time-based underemployed persons increased by 2 million 588 thousand persons in the last ten years. The increase in time-based underemployment is a consequence of livelihood difficulties.<\/p>\n Other findings from the report are as follows:<\/p>\n\n
